The presentation of the new report of the UNO about the climate changing was held in Saint-Petersburg

On October, 28 the first in Russia presentation of 5th evaluative report of IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) was discussed in INTERFAX. That event was organized by Climatic Secretariat of the Russian Social Ecological Union and WWF, Russia.

V.M. Kattsov, the head of the Voyeykov General Geophysical Observatory, a member of the IPCC. Also, one of the authors of the Russian Climatic Doctrine, told about the general results of the researches of the first group of IPCC that appreciate scientific aspects of the climatic system and climatic changes. It is clear from Kattsov’s report that there will be more anomalously hot periods and less frosty days. The periods of heat will be more frequent and longer. At the same time there may be observed the terms of extremely low temperatures. The difference between arid and damp regions will be more noticeable.

A.O. Kokorin, the coordinator of the ‘Climate and Energy’program of the WWF, Russia, said that the main feature of the new report was forecast for the whole XXI century. Novelty of the report is that the main indicator of climate changes is the World Ocean temperature raising. Kokorin said: ‘It’s time to stop repeating old words about “scientists disputes”! It’s known that the main reason is a human!’. The matter of climate changing is still not paramount problem for Russian people.

O.N. Senova, the head of Climatic Secretariat of the Russian Social Ecological Union, pointed out that one of the most efficient instruments of lowering the anthropogenic influence on climate is energy efficiency. The campaign of Russian Social Ecological Union named ‘Energy efficiency is the biggest Russia’ power plant’ was urged to show to society uncommitted resources and profit from their using. ‘The State Program of Energy Saving and Raising the Energy Effectiveness till 2020’ takes ambitious aim – economy of initial energy on 1124 million t; natural gas – 330 million cubic metres; electric energy – 630 milliard kilowatt p.h., heat energy – 1550 million gigacalories; oil products – 17 million tons. Saving of 63 TW is equal to the year output of one of the most powerful electric power station (for example, Leningrad nuclear powerplant or Surgut thermoelectric power station). It shows that energy efficiency is the source of energy that could replace some dangerous energy supplies. O.N. Senova presented Energy Saving Case with the the most simple methods of saving energy.
